Mastering the art of the perfect Instagram profile page is no mean feat so we have put together some tips. Remember that Instagram is a moving feast, and new features are released regularly. Tips may vary from one business type to another, and what is right for one business may not be for another. We keep our clients abreast of new features and tips, as they appear (and remember one size does not always fit all!)

Company Name

Your Instagram user name should resemble your business name as closely as possible. Link this: @biteintonet

Keep all your business social handles the same so that there’s consistency between different social channels. For example:

Profile Image

Upload your business profile image here. Image dimensions:

  • (110 x 110 Mobile)
  • (180 x 180 Desktop)

For Business accounts, it’s always best to use your company logo as the profile image.

Profile/Biog

This is your chance to introduce your brand or business to Instagram. Keep it short and to the point. Most of all, keep it informative and fun.

Avoid “BuzzWords” and keep the tone fresh and conversational, but do use a slogan or brief description that speaks your brand voice.

Use a branded hashtag to encourage tagging and sharing.

URL

Put your company’s web address or Facebook URL here.

Always try to direct Instagram traffic to your own website.

You can use an Instagram-specific relevant bio link pointing to your homepage or your current promotion (landing page) – use a URL tracker like Bitly to further assess your Instagram traffic. (We use Bit.ly)

Branding

Watermarking your company logo into your photos can be one way of effective branding, but it may not suit all.

Not every image need be about sell sell sell. Try posting some behind-the-scenes photos that reveal a little more about your brand’s personality.

Pick a theme and stay consistent.

Try to inspire your audience and create a personal bond.

Keep comments and interactions on a conversational level. No hard selling. This will put people off.

Interactions

Post thoughtful and genuine comments on other peoples photos. This helps build interactions and hopefully potential customers and followers.

HashTags

Use #tags to target a particular audience. Instagram posts with at least one hashtag get almost 13% more engagement than posts without hashtags.

Don’t always follow the beaten track. By being more specific with your tags, you’ll attract a more focused potential customer.

Use a maximum of 30 tags and keep them varied. Using the same tags on every post is not the best policy.

Use well thought out #hashtags

Photos

Photos should be original, interesting and provoke engagement. They should show you and your business off in the best possible light.

Always use high resolution images. Striking visual content grabs attention. Reject blurred and pixelated photos, they have no place on an image lead platform.

GeoTags

Geotag your photos so potential customers know where your business is. It may also attract new followers in your local area.

Add geotags to promote offers to target locations. Also good if you have multiple stores in different areas that you want to promote.

Captions

Captions help grab the views’ attention, and if you can make them laugh or smile with your caption, you’ll retain more people as followers.

Caption Tips
  • Add URL to captions to drive traffic;
  • Ask questions to your captions to increase engagement;
  • Be witty, friendly and informal;
  • If you’ve posted a picture of a product you sell, add a direct link to that product on your site in the caption.
  • Tag larger relevant accounts in your photos.
When
  • Don’t over post
  • Keep your post schedule consistent
  • Post at optimal times for your audience
